Members of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce are invited to the NJCU Presidential Speaker Series celebrating The Entrepreneurial Spirit.
On Monday, April 4th, planetary scientist Dr. Carolyn Porco will take us on a voyage to Saturn in the IMAX Theatre at 6:30 p.m.
Dr. Porco is well known for her work in the exploration of the outer solar system. She garnered fame for her imaging work on the Voyager mission to the outer solar system in the eighties and is the leader of the imaging science team on the Cassini mission which is currently orbiting Saturn.
Named by Time Magazine as one of the “25 Most Influential People in Space,” she is a very popular lecturer and television personality. She appears as a regular CNN science analyst and has been seen on the PBS Newshour, Discovery Channel, BBC, National Geographic Channel and as a guest on the science series Stargazer LIVE. She was an advisor to the popular films Contact and Star Trek. She will be a guest host on the Star Talk Radio’s new All Stars podcast.
Dr. Porco is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. In addition to the Time Magazine honor, she has been named one of the scientific leaders of the 21st Century and one of “50 People Who Matter Today” by the New Statesman. In 2010, she was awarded the Carl Sagan Medal by the American Astronomical Society for Excellence in the Communication of Science to the Public. Since 2015, she has been a visiting distinguished scholar at the University of California at Berkley and a fellow of the California Academy of Sciences.
A role-model for young women headed into the STEM fields, she exemplifies the new age of space exploration. Chamber members are invited to attend for FREE, but seats must be reserved in advance.
