What: "Bayesian Model-building in Stan"
Bayesian analysis offers a compelling framework for model building, allowing us to build arbitrarily complex models, to include information from outside the data, and to deal with uncertainty coherently. Yet the tools of Bayesian analysis are not widely used, possibly because of a perception that using Bayesian techniques is difficult. This perception is misplaced. In this talk, Jim will provide an outline of Bayesian model building in the easy-to-learn Stan language, using examples from his work building models of East African consumer loans. The talk will not be a worked tutorial, instead trying to build intuition for Bayesian modeling.
