Navratri, where "Nav" means nine and "ratri" means nights...

 

Navratri is a festival of worship, dance and music celebrated over nine nights in the months of October and November. It is a festival that celebrates the sacredness of the Mother Goddess.  Newark Avenue in Jersey City sets the scene for a unique example during Navratri, where more than 15,000 men, women and children play Garba-Rass on the street, all throughout the night, every night for 4 - 6 nights.  Join us for this rare spectacle, which is free to the public.
